Colin Firth is a British stage and movie actor. He is most known for his role in the two episodes of Bridget Jones’s Diary. Colin Firth was born in 1960 in England. As a son of a teacher, he spent part of his childhood in Nigeria. He performed on stage from an early age, but despite his talent, he did not become famous outside Britain until later. Colin Firth’s movie career started in 1984 with Another Country, where he played along with Rupert Everett. Later on, he received roles in various British movies, like A Month In The Country in 1987 with Kenneth Branagh and Valmont (1989). The real breakthrough came in 1995 with the lead role of the TV version of Pride and Prejudice. After this, Colin Firth became an idol among British women. Colin Firth received minor roles in Hollywood movies during the following years. He played in The English Patient (1996) and Shakespeare In Love (1998). Finally, in 2001 he got a lead role in Bridget Jones’s Diary, which brought him success and critical acclaim in the United States too. In the early 2000’s Colin Firth became a popular romantic character in Hollywood movies. He starred in What a Girl Wants (2003) and Love Actually (2003), and played the role of Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004). Currently, Firth is planning his breakaway from the image of charmer. He will appear in The Enchanted Sword, a historical war movie, and Toyer, a horror, both to be released in 2007. |
