Hugh Jackman is an Australian stage, musical and movie actor. He is one of the few actors who have grown into celebrities while also having a successful stage career. Hugh Jackman was born in 1968 in Sydney, Australia. He intended to become a journalist, and had little interest in acting until he had a few classes during his university studies. He went to the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, from where he graduated in 1994. Jackman started his career in TV and on stage. He received roles in various Australian TV series such as Corelli, his first role in 1995. At the same time, he performed in many musicals and received good reviews both on his acting talents and singing. He first received notice outside Australia when he performed a role in Oklahoma! in the West End Theater in London. From then on, Jackman received many stage roles in Great Britain and the United States. His first Hollywood role was Wolverine in X-Men in 2000, where he became the last minute substitute for Dougray Scott. X-Men became a big success, and made Hugh Jackman popular in Hollywood. In the early 2000’s, Jackman has become a celebrity. Besides performing on stage, he was cast for movie roles along with the biggest stars. These roles display a wide range of Jackman’s talent. While Someone Like You (2001) and Kate and Leopold (2001) were romantic comedies, Jackman also received positive reviews for sci-fis like X-Men (2000) and X2 (2003), and action movies such as Swordfish (2001). His talent also saved the otherwise pretty bad Van Helsing (2004). It is safe to say that Hugh Jackman is one of the shooting stars of Hollywood. His career in recent years brought him fame and success, and he has got many movies on the horizon including X-Men 3 (2006) and The Fountain (2006), a sci-fi with Rachel Weisz. |
