Tom Cruise is an American actor. His acting career started in the beginning of the 1980’s, but his first big success, Top Gun, only came 5 years later. In this movie, Cruise played a young and ambitious pilot, who arrives to Top Gun, the special training course of the US Air Force. The movie also starred, among many famous actors, Kelly McGillis and Val Kilmer. From the end of the 1980’s, Tom Cruise was given important roles of all sorts. On the one hand, he played in romantic movies such as “Far and Away,” in 1992, with Nicole Kidman, his first wife. On the other hand, Cruise had more serious roles where he could prove how versatile his talent was. He starred in dramas such as the famous “Rain Man,” with Dustin Hoffman, or “Born on the Fourth of July.” He played Lestat, the Vampire, in Anne Rice’s “Interwiew with the Vampire.” One of the high points of Tom Cruise’s career was no doubt the role of Ethan Hunt in the movie version of the 60’s (and 80’s) TV series Mission Impossible. Lately, Tom Cruise is a real star of Hollywood who only plays in the biggest and most expensive movies. The most recent films featuring Tom Cruise are various action movies. He plays a cop on the run in Steven Spielberg’s “Minority Report.” He is an American officer who takes side with the Japanese rebels in “The Last Samurai.” He is one of the few survivors in the remake of “The War of the Worlds,” also directed by Steven Spielberg. The next movie of Tom Cruise will be the third episode of “Mission Impossible,” which is to be released in May 2006. |
